If you are no longer eligible for the student travel product, for example because your studies have ended, you must cancel it. If you use your student travel product while you are no longer eligible for it, you will incur a debt. This is also known as an student travel debt. You must pay this debt to DUO. DUO collects the student travel debt on behalf of the public transport companies.

How much student travel debt?

In the 1st month after your eligibility for the student travel product has ended, the student travel debt is €92.98 per half a month in 2025 (€89.54 in 2024). The 1st half of the month runs up to and including the 15th of the month.

If you continue to use the student travel product after this 1st month, the debt increases by €185.98 per half a month in 2025 (€179.10 in 2024).

Cancelling your student travel product

Did you get an student travel debt and haven’t you cancelled your student travel product yet? If you are still not eligible for it, you need to cancel your student travel product.
