You are still in education
If you return to education, we can put the repayments for your student loan or lifelong learning credit on hold. If you are in the , we will put this phase on hold. You must meet a number of conditions.
Conditions
- You have a lifelong learning credit for your course, or you are taking a course which meets the conditions for student finance or a grant for students in secondary education. It is not relevant if you are still receiving student finance or a grant yourself.
- You are not enrolled as an external student ('extraneus').
- If you have a student loan: your ('diplomatermijn') has not yet expired. This condition does not apply for putting a lifelong learning credit debt on hold.
We will check if you meet the conditions for each debt individually. Do you meet the first 2 conditions, but not the one about the diploma period? Then we will only put the repayments for your lifelong learning credit on hold. You will need to continue repayments for your student loan.
Applying for repayments to be put on hold
If you return to education, we often put your repayments on hold automatically. We do this in the following 2 situations:
- You receive student finance for your course (again).
- You have a lifelong learning credit debt and you receive a lifelong learning credit again.
Sometimes you have to apply for your repayments to be put on hold yourself. Choose the debt you have below and find out what you need to do.

Applying yourself
Do you need to apply for your repayments to be put on hold yourself? Log in to Mijn DUO and go to 'Mijn schulden'. Then go to 'Uw gegevens wijzigen', 'Terugbetaling uitstellen'.
