Particulier Numerus fixus programmes

Numerus fixus programmes

Selection by the educational institution

Sometimes the number of applications exceeds the number of places available for a degree programme. These programmes are called numerus fixus programmes. Educational institutions select their own students for these programmes. Selection may be based on your motivation, personality, final list of grades and previous scores in school.

DUO cannot answer any questions about the selection processes and placements. For more information about numerus fixus programmes, please contact the university or institution for higher vocational education (HBO).

Lottery and ‘ministerplaatsen’ abolished

Before the academic school year 2017-2018, a lottery based selection was used. This selection has been abolished, along with the so-called ‘ministerplaatsen’ for students from Aruba, Sint-Maarten, Curaçao and the Caribbean Netherlands. The only way to be admitted to a degree programme is through selection by the educational institution.

No more than 2 selection programmes

You can apply for no more than 2 numerus fixus programmes per academic year. You may apply for the same programme at 2 different educational institutions, with these exceptions: medicine, dentistry, dental hygiene and physiotherapy. For these programmes you can only apply at 1 institution.

How to apply

  • Check the list of numerus fixus programmes (Dutch only) to see if your preferred programme is a numerus fixus programme. The list of numerus fixus programmes for the academic year 2018-2019 will be available early December 2017.
  • Apply in Studielink. You can do this from the 1st of October 2017. The deadline for applying is 15 January 2018. After that, the educational institutions will start their selection processes. No selection will take place if there are fewer applications than places available.
  • You will receive the results on 15 April 2018 in Studielink. If you have been selected, you need to accept your place within 2 weeks, also in Studielink. If you don’t, you will forfeit your place.

How often can you take part?

The educational institution determines how often you can participate in the selection process for a specific degree programme, with a maximum of 3 times. This includes any times you participated in the selection process before the academic year 2017-2018.

Apply for the study year 2017-2018

You can no longer apply for the academic year 2017-2018.

Taking part from abroad

Would you like to take part in the selection process while you are abroad? Please contact the educational institution about the possibilities.

Results

The results will be announced on 15 April 2018. You will receive the results through Studielink.
