Study voucher allowance

Old scheme: study voucher for new degree programme

Until 1 September 2023, the old study voucher scheme applied. Under this scheme, the study voucher was a credit for a new education programme.

Conditions

If you received a study voucher for the 2022-2023 or for the 2023-2024 academic year, you could use it until 1 September 2023. You needed to meet all of the following conditions:

  • You received your first month of student finance for a bachelor programme in the period September 2015 up to and including August 2019.
  • The loan system applied to you at the time.
  • You have obtained an HBO diploma (Bachelor) or full university diploma (Bachelor + Master) before or during the 2018-2019 academic year.
  • You graduated within 10 years, calculated from your first month of student finance for HBO or university.
  • You were enrolled in the new programme before 1 September 2023.
  • You sent a request to use the study voucher before 1 September 2023.

If you obtained your diploma outside of the Netherlands, you needed to send a certified copy of your diploma to DUO.

Amount

The amount of the voucher depended on the amount of the tuition fees you were due in the year you used it. For the 2023-2024 academic year, the maximum amount was €2,207.88. For the 2022-2023 academic year, the maximum was €2,150.25.

For which programmes

You could only use your voucher for an accredited programme in higher education (full time, part time, dual or modular). You could choose an accredited programme with a government funded university or school, or with an institution that is not government funded. This could also be a recognized programme abroad.
