For the 2023-2024 academic year, the basic grant or allowance for students and school pupils living away from home will be increased by €164.30. This is a temporary measure aimed at giving you an extra year of support, as students and school pupils are also facing a sharp increase in costs.
Conditions
- You are entitled to a basic grant or a basic allowance in the 2023-2024 academic year.
- The municipality lists you as living at another address than your parents.
Gift or repayment
The temporary increase is part of the basic grant, which means:
- that the sum is a gift for students in secondary vocational education (MBO) levels 1 and 2 and for school pupils in secondary education.
- that for students in secondary vocational education (MBO) levels 3 or 4 and higher education (HBO or university), the grant becomes a gift if you obtain your diploma within 10 years. If you don’t, you will have to repay the total amount with interest.
Applying not necessary
If you are eligible for the purchasing power compensation as a student living away from home, you don’t need to take any action. The amount will automatically be paid on top of your basic grant or basic allowance. You will be notified about this in June or July 2023.
