Amounts

The Dutch government plans to reinstate the basic grant for students in HBO and university. There are also plans for extra support during the 2023-2024 academic year for students living on their own, since their purchasing power has decreased. The plans are not definite until they have been approved by the Eerste Kamer. Read more about the plans.

These are the maximum amounts per month.

Not the full supplementary grant?

If you do not qualify for the (full) supplementary grant, you can borrow the shortfall as an extra interest bearing loan, on top of the 'regular' interest bearing loan. If you take out an extra loan and your supplementary grant is calculated later, we will offset the supplementary grant with the extra loan.

Applying for a lower amount

You can apply for less than the maximum grant. If you obtain your diploma in time, we will automatically pay you the amount you did not receive. You can also adjust the amount of your payments during your studies, even for past months up to the start of the academic year.

You can adjust the amount of your student finance in Mijn DUO.
