Overview

If you are no longer entitled to your student travel product, for example because you have ended your studies, you must cancel it. If you use your student travel product while you are no longer entitled to it, you will get a fine.  This is also known as an OV fine. You must pay this fine to DUO. DUO collects the OV fine on behalf of the public transport companies.

How much fine?

The longer you keep using your student travel product, the higher the fine. You are charged per half a month.

Did you use your student travel product in the 1st month after you should have cancelled it? Then it costs €79.28 per half a month in 2022 (€78.29 in 2021). After that 1st month, the fine is €158.57 per half a month (€156.58 in 2021). You can check your fine in Mijn DUO. DUO checks regularly if you used your student travel product.

Cancelling your student travel product

Did you get an OV fine and are you still not entitled to a student travel product? Then you need to cancel your student travel product if you have not done so already.
